Handgun Primer 1 & 2

This course teaches the basic skills needed to safely handle and shoot a semiautomatic handgun. Ideally suited for people who have little or no experience with a handgun.  Particular attention is paid to instruction for those who are nervous or fearful with firearms.  This course also provides a foundation for the Texas License to Carry shooting proficiency test.  Shooting fundamentals that are covered in class include:  safety, eye dominance, grip, sight alignment (aiming), sight picture (aiming), trigger press, loading and unloading the handgun.  Student safety and providing a positive learning environment are the basis of this course.

 

*It is not necessary for students to purchase firearms and equipment prior to this class.  One of the purposes of the class is to provide information so that students can make informed purchases.

 

Course Duration: 4 hours each.  (Approximately 2 hours of classroom and 2 hours of range in each session)

 

Cost: $140 each, includes use of a handgun, and ammunition. Separate range fees may apply.

 

Required Equipment: Use of a loaner handgun in either .22 caliber or 9mm and ammunition is included if desired.  Students may bring their own semi-automatic handgun and ammunition if they wish.  It is recommended that students bring their own eye and hearing protection, but loaners will be available.  A baseball style cap is required for each student during the range portion of the class.  Closed toed shoes suitable for stability and mobility are required on the range.
